The Waupaca Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is based out of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church and helps Neighbors in Need in Waupaca and the surrounding area via home visits that result in prayerful thought and supportive financial and other resources. The Conference was founded on January 1, 2015, and currently consists of six active members who visit local Neighbors in teams of two. The Conference is part of the Appleton District and the Green Bay Diocese, and is officially aggregated by the International Society of St. Vincent de Paul. The current Conference President is Rocky Landsverk, a parishioner from Waupaca.
The members of the Waupaca Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul respond to inquiries from local Neighbors in Need by contacting them to set up a time to visit, then meeting them where they live to learn not just about what resources are needed moving forward but to also fully understand the scenario of the current situation. The two-person teams visit the family in meetings that can last up to an hour, then identify how SVdP can best help in that situation. If rent or similar financial needs are identified, those payments are made straight to the landlord or owners. The Conference averages 100 visits per year and distributes roughly $25,000 in aid. Financial support is primarily driven by parishioners of St. Mary Magdalane along with other local individuals and companies that believe in the mission. To learn more about how to help, please visit our Help Your Neighbors page.
